Gainsborough Market to feature Literature Village & Street Theatre

Rebecca Buxton will be coming to the Gainsborough Market. Rebecca stood at her market stall selling her books.

The Gainsborough Farmers and Craft Market will be a fun event this September with their usual fresh and local produce and craft traders. Additionally, there will be a Literature Village, Steampunk street theatre, storytelling, free crafts and entertainment for children.

Literature Village

For the first time, Newark Book Festival Literature Village will be ‘on tour’ outside of Nottinghamshire – over the border here in Lincolnshire.

Gainsborough Market Place will welcome the ‘stallies’ from Newark Literature Village with their market stalls dedicated to all things book related. Find authors and poets promoting their work, book illustrators, writing groups, craft makers and book themed products.

There will be a super dozen Literature Village traders with something for everyone: children’s and adult fiction, history, thriller, poetry. There will also be storytelling on the Market Place and in the Library on Cobden Street – the Musicians of Bremen and the Pied Piper of Hamlin will be brought alive in a new story format. (10 am in the Library and 11 am on the Market Place). Come and settle down on a beanbag in our pop-up story telling tent!

The Gainsborough Library and Gainsborough Heritage Centre will both have stalls and there will be free crafts for children from AllyPally the Storybook Emporium.

Street Theatre

The fantastical Steampunk ‘Crab and Crumb’ will be joining us on their crazy bicycle machine. Jeremiah Crab and Thadious Crumb -Victorian fairy catchers and magical pest control – will be out and about dealing with pests and trading their weird and wonderful wares (have a sneak peek here).
