Walking

Get your walking boots and wrap up warm and head out to the Lincolnshire Wolds. With just under an hour’s drive away from Gainsborough, you’ll find breath-taking views at every turn whilst walking in the Wolds. There’s a range of distances to suit most types of walkers and the Love Lincolnshire Wolds website has easy to use step by step guides plus suggested places to eat in the area. Most routes are circular and shows you places to park as well as public toilets in the area. You also take a stroll down Gainsborough’s riverside walk all the way from Trent Bridge to the village of Morton, plus there are also a number of local woods in the area to enjoy.

Shopping

If shopping is more your thing, Gainsborough has a variety of independent shops including ladies fashion and jewellery (not that we’re dropping a hint!). Marshall’s Yard also offers a great shopping experience and houses Browns Department Stores, Next and Stanley Hunt Jewellers – just to name a few! Closer to Lincoln you’ll find a great experience at Hemswell Antiques where you can spend the day exploring the maze of rooms that feature an unrivalled choice of beautiful high quality goods.

Got a Sweet Tooth? Stop by the Cupcake Cafe in Marhsall’s Yard where you can find delicious cupcakes and other treats. Sweetie Perfection also in Marshall’s Yard has a great selection of traditional and new sweets. They are also selling Valentine’s gifts as well as hampers.

For those that like a challenge, Blyton Ice Cream are inviting couples to go up against each other for their Ice Cream blind taste testing competition!

You’ll also find a great selection of gifts and cards at Mackenzie’s Cards, plus gorgeous flowers from All Season Florist, Pink Orchid and The Florist by Blush.

Discover Heritage

Gainsborough is home to one of England’s best preserved medieval manor houses – Gainsborough Old Hall. It’s currently open on weekends, 10am to 4pm. You can also discover the history of Gainsborough at Gainsborough Heritage Centre open Tuesdays and Saturdays, 10am to 4pm.

Food and drink

Wine and dine your significant other with a number of great places to eat in Gainsborough. Dine by candlelight at the Clock House Gastrobar with their Valentines themed menu, available from Friday 10 to Saturday 18 February, or go Italian at Prezzo. You can also enjoy fine dining at Thonock Park with a three course meal for only £40pp. Other great offers can be found at The Forge Restaurant and Bar available Tuesday 14 to Saturday 18 February, a limited number of tables remain at Reeds Riverside Coffee Shop (11 & 12 February) and The Crown Inn at Glentham. You can also enjoy live music by Ellie James as you dine at the Caldero Lounge, on Tuesday 14 February , 7pm tp 9pm.

If you prefer to stay in, you’ll find some of the best quality produce at Red Hill Farm Shop just outside Gainsborough as well as the Meat Storr located on Market Street. Uncle Henry’s farm shop is also a must supporting over 45 Lincolnshire producers! You can also book for their Valentines High Tea for Two available from Friday 14 to Sunday 16 February for only £15 per person.

Don’t forget it’s also Gainsborough’s monthly Farmers’ and Craft Market on Saturday 11 February. A great chance to find a unique gift or stock up on local produce to create a home cooked delicious meal. Shoppers will also be able to enjoy live music from Michael Wood in the Market Place from 10.30am performing not just one, but three 45 minute sets. Michael will be sure to bring some romance to February’s Valentines Farmers’ & Crafts Market.
