Browns department store links with another great local company!

Rochelle Rose

The independent department store Browns is the first High Street retailer to stock a new beauty and skin care range produced by local salon, Rochell Rose.

Both Browns and Rochell Rose are located at Marshall’s Yard in Gainsborough and a strong partnership has been formed through what has been a difficult time for both the retail and beauty industry.

Browns department stores are open in Gainsborough, Beverley and Helmsley with the flagship store in the centre of York. The Gainsborough store which has been open at the shopping centre for eight years will be the only store to stock the new range initially.

The new range is made up of a number of skincare products including a vegan self-tanning mousse, vegan coffee body scrub, facial scrub, collagen eye gel and face cream, all of which are cruelty free and 100% natural.

The products were created and produced during lock-down when all non-essential businesses were forced to shut due to COVID-19.

Salon owner, Amy Benson, used the lockdown to diversify her business and to carry out her dream of creating and launching a new beauty range that could be sold both online and through her salon once she was allowed to reopen.

During lockdown conversations began between Rochell Rose and Browns and quickly the two businesses decided to pull together and assist each other through the pandemic.

As a result, Browns have become official stockists of the full Rochell Rose range from today.

Assistant Store Manager at Browns, Jodie Pacey, said: “2020 has been a very challenging year for all businesses due to COVID-19, but particularly close contact services.

“We know Amy’s background and how hard she worked to get her salon up and running in Marshall’s Yard and we really wanted to do something to help our neighbour out. The range will add a new offer to our wonderful store and we very much look forward to offering these gorgeous products to our customers.”

Amy Benson of Rochell Rose added: “I cannot express enough my thanks to the team at Browns for believing in my product range and allowing me a platform to sell these to the shoppers in Browns. It’s amazing to see such a big well-established business helping out a tiny start up like mine and it makes you realise that with hard work and by building relationships anything really is possible.

“COVID-19 could have been truly devastating for my business, which is completely reliant on being client facing, but luckily it allowed me to speed up the launch of my products which have been in the making for over a year. We have now diversified enough to assist the salon whilst the beauty industry struggles to regain normal trading levels.”

Amy started her brow, lash and beauty business from her spare bedroom four years ago quickly growing her client base bringing on the need to have a dedicated unit to grow her business and services. The salon at Marshall’s Yard opened on the first floor of Britannia House in 2017.
